Milton 23 – Brookwood 28

Milton Defeated  in Closely Contested 2nd Round Playoff Game at Brookwood

 

A successful Milton Season ended in a rugged, hard-hitting, competitive playoff contest at Gwinnett County perennial powerhouse, Brookwood. All of the match-up’s key statistical measures were nearly identical. including time of possession, number of offensive plays and total offensive yardage. Milton had the edge in first downs 20 to 15, but Brookwood won the scoreboard 28-23. Eagles QB Jordan Yates continued his outstanding play passing for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns, with Yates rushing for 94 yards. Dash Hairston was the game’s leading receiver with 6 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. Syaire Waters contributed 3 receptions and a touchdown. Solomon Vanhorse provided 100 all-purpose yards and a rushing touchdown. Defensive leaders were George Coyle, Joe Charleston, Price Townes and Jack Rhodes all contributing 8+ tackles, with Rhodes recording an interception. 

 

 

Milton 44 – Collins Hill 15

Milton Dominant in 1st Round Playoff Win

 

Milton is peaking at the right time as they rolled to a first round playoff victory over Collins Hill. Our Eagles controlled the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively with strong performances by our offensive line and our front 7 on defense. Jordan Yates and Solomon Vanhorse lead the way on offense rushing for 166 yards and 116 yards respectively and 3 combined rushing touchdowns. Yates also passed for 2 touchdowns, one each to Jordan Cox and Dash Hairston. George Coyle was once again the game’s leading tackler with 13 combined tackles, and Joe Charleston put the game out of reach for the opposition with a pick six early in the second half. On to round 2, where the Eagles will face Brookwood at Brookwood this Friday night!

Eagles Headed to 2017 Playoffs Following Big Win over North Forsyth

 

Milton heads into the 2017 Georgia High School State Playoffs by closing out the regular season 8-2 with a dominant win over North Forsyth on Senior Night. The Eagles offense recorded a series of explosive plays that contributed to over 400 years in total offense. Scoring plays of 64 yards, 61 yards, 57 yards and 54 yards on offense – plus a 44 yard pick six on defense from George Coyle – highlighted an evening of big plays. Jordan Yates accounted for 5 touchdowns, 3 passing and 2 on the ground, with 109 yards rushing and 208 yards through the air. Solomon Vanhorse continued his strong play, averaging more than 7 yards per carry as well contributing a stellar catch and run touchdown to close out the first half. Milton’s defense continued its outstanding play with Jordan Davis, Price Towns and Joe Charleston leading the way as the game’s top tacklers.

Milton Dominates Lambert, Moves to 7-2 (3-1 Region)

 

Explosive plays on offense are the headline from a dominant win on the road at Lambert. First-half touchdowns of 71 yards, 67 yards and 41 yards provided Milton with a solid 21-10 halftime lead. Syaire Waters opened the scoring on the Eagles’ first play from scrimmage with a 71-yard jet sweep, TD run. Solomon Vanhorse added a 67-yard TD run early in the second quarter, and Syaire again found the end zone mid-way through Q2 on an exciting flea flicker reception from Jordan Yates. Jordan accounted for 255 yards of offense, 193 through the air and 62 on the ground. Hayden Hairston continued his solid play, converting all extra points and making 2 field goals, including a 42-yard strike in the third quarter. Jordan Davis led the way defensively with 12 total tackles and a big third quarter interception and return.

 

Milton 17 - Forsyth Central 0

Milton Moves to 6-2, 2-1 in Region

In a 17-0 win, Milton dominated in all statistical categories, rolling up over 500 yards of offense with 20 first downs and limiting Forsyth Central to just 150 of offense. Scoring proved difficult through the first 3 quarters, but Hayden Hairston broke the ice with a 32-yard field goal early in the 4th quarter. Jordan Yates and Solomon Vanhorse were the standouts on offense, rushing for 218 and 166 yards respectively. Both Yates and Vanhorse recorded rushing touchdowns, Yates coming on a 91-yard run midway through the 4th quarter. George Coyle and Justin Blanks continue to lead the way on Milton’s defense, with Coyle leading all tacklers and Blanks recording 2 quarterback sacks.

 

Milton 13 – South Forsyth 21

South Forsyth Prevails in Battle for Early Region Lead

Milton hosted a very talented South Forsyth team in a battle for the early lead in region play. South Forsyth came into the game at 6-0 versus our 5-1 Eagles. Milton opened the scoring with an exciting blocked punt and recovery for a TD by Lucas Moore. South Forsyth fought back to control much of the first half play to take a 21-6 lead at halftime. Our Eagles rallied in the second half to stifle the South Forsyth offense and to get our own offense into gear, controlling second half time of possession and recording double digit first downs. George Coyle, Price Townes and Jordan Davis lead the way on defense, all recording double digit tackles. Solomon Vanhorse scored a third quarter TD  to get Milton in striking distance, and Dylan Leonard delivered a strong 6-catch, 75-yard performance. Down the stretch, Milton threatened but ran out of time as the Eagles looked to even the score to force overtime.

Milton Prevails in Hard Fought Win Over West Forsyth to Open Region Play 
 
Milton opened its regional schedule with a hard fought, emotional win away at West Forsyth. The game featured strong performances by both teams’ defenses in a hard-hitting battle. George Coyle, Justin Blanks and Price Townes led the way on defense, all recording multiple solo and assisted tackles. Coyle, who continues to be a defensive standout, added a QB sack to stifle West’s momentum. Jordan Yates continued his solid play as a true dual-threat QB, going 11 for 15 passing with a touchdown pass to Dash Hairston to go along with his 47 yards on the ground. Hairston turned in another stellar performance with 51 yards receiving, highlighted by a diving 33-yard reception and a flawlessly executed ‘hook and lateral’ to Syaire Waters to set up his touchdown reception from Yates.

Milton Dominates Rival Roswell
The Milton Eagles turned in a dominant performance in their 65-year old rivalry game versus the Roswell Hornets, recording 21 first downs and amassing nearly 400 yards of total offense. The offense was led by Jordan Yates who threw for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dash Hairston had a breakout game with 99 yards receiving and 2 TD receptions highlighted by a 75-yard catch and run that broke the game wide open. Solomon Vanhorse delivered another 100-yard performance, rushing for 107 yards. The Eagle Defense controlled the Hornets attack, limiting them to just 1 first quarter score. George Coyle and Jordan Davis led the way with 5 solo tackles each. Late in the 4th quarter, the Eagles D recorded a safety which led to a DJ Albright 67-yard kick return for a TD to close out the game.

Milton Defeats Etowah with Another Strong Offensive Performance
The Eagles impressed again, moving their record to 3 and 1 behind a strong offensive performance yielding more than 400 total yards and 19 first downs. Milton  and Etowah traded touchdowns in the first half and were deadlocked at 14-14 at halftime. Etowah opened the scoring in the second half to take a 20 to 14 lead, but Milton mounted an impressive drive capped off by a touchdown pass from Jordan Yates to Kevin Murphy giving our Eagles a 21-20 lead. Solomon Vanhorse continued his outstanding play with 123 yards rushing and a huge TD pass to Jordan Yates for the final score of the game. Yates had another strong performance with 216 yards passing, 57 yards rushing and the 38 yard TD reception from Vanhorse. The Eagles defense, which continues to wow, was led by Jordan Davis with a 10 tackle performance and Justin Blanks who recorded a key interception as well as a timely quarterback sack.

Milton Dominates Cross-town Rival Cambridge

The electric game day atmosphere for the ‘Backyard Brawl’ away at Bears Stadium had all the makings of a classic collegiate rivalry game with a packed house of passionate Eagles and Bears fans. The Eagles Defense was dominant, holding Cambridge to just over 200 yards in total offense while Milton rolled up over 400 yards offensively. Soloman Vanhorse continued his outstanding play rushing for 149 yards, and completing a key 36-yard pass on a half-back option to set up an Eagles score. Jordan Yates had another solid outing, completing 18 of 30 passes for 186 yards and rushing for 53 yards. Wide receiver Dash Hairston came up big with 7 receptions for 85 yards. Milton's dominant defense featured 2 key interceptions by Brendan McNeillie and Joe Charleston. George Coyle and Price Townes continued to lead all tacklers through 3 games.

Eagles Fall to North Gwinnett in Last Seconds of Game

In a game of big plays, the Eagles jumped out to an early 14-0 lead with 2 TD passes from Jordan Yates to Dash Hairston and Solomon Vanhorse. North Gwinnett got on the board with a long TD pass of their own to make the score 14-7 in favor of the Eagles going into halftime. A quiet 3rd quarter gave way to a wild 4th quarter with a total of 35 points scored, including North Gwinnett’s final touchdown with just seconds on the clock. Solomon Vanhorse led the way offensively with 114 yards rushing and 2 TD receptions. On defense, both Allen Walker and Jack Rhodes recorded interceptions. Joe Charleston and George Coyle led the team in tackles.

Exciting start to the 2017 Varsity football season at the Eagles Nest!

A standing room only crowd packed Milton Stadium for a home game vs. the always-competitive cross-town rival, Alpharetta Raiders. The first half featured strong performances by both defenses, and the Eagles went into halftime trailing 6-3.  At the half, Coach Clack challenged his players to trust: trust the game plan, trust their preparation, trust that the defense would continue to dominate, trust that the offense would out-score the opposition. The Eagles exploded for 28 points in the second half, out-scoring Alpharetta 28 to 3 on the way to a 31 to 9 victory to begin the season with a big win. Milton tallied more than 400 yards in total offense, led by junior QB Jordan Yates, who had a strong performance both passing and rushing. Senior RB Solomon Vanhorse led all rushers with 109 yards on the ground. The Eagles defense controlled the game and provided good field position throughout, led by seniors Price Townes and Brendan McNeillie and junior Allen Walker – all recording 6+ tackles each.
