The Eagles kicked off their 2015 campaign with a preseason scrimmage at Centennial Friday night, as Milton’s Varsity, JV, and Freshman squads finally got to hit someone other than their own teammates for a change. On a perfect night for football in front of a great fan turnout, the Varsity team beat Centennial 28-14 in three quarters of action that featured valuable reps for all of the team’s offense, defense, and special teams units. Quarterback David Moore led the offense on several long drives, throwing touchdowns passes to fellow seniors Chris Cory and Davis Johnson. The offensive line opened up big holes for the running game, including several big gains by leading rusher Jake Mansfield and touchdown runs by Stanley Derrico and AJ Beach.
The defense played a solid game as well, containing Centennial’s balanced attack for most of the game and forcing several three and outs. The defensive line had a particularly strong performance, putting pressure on the Knight’s quarterbacks all night and getting multiple sacks each from both Davis Hunt and Chase Hooper.
The JV and Freshman teams then squared off against their Centennial counterparts to wrap up a great night of football, showcasing the impressive talent that is waiting in the wings for the Eagles program in the years to come.
After an off-week next week, the regular season starts on August 28th against crosstown rival and defending Region 6 champ Alpharetta at the Eagles Nest. We are expecting a packed house, so make your plans now to arrive early and join the rest of Eagle Nation for this epic showdown!
Eagles Wrap Up Spring Practice With Blue-White Scrimmage
The Eagles took the first steps of their journey toward defending their Region 5-AAAAAA crown with the annual Blue-White intra-squad scrimmage Thursday night. The White team defeated the Blue team 21-7 to wrap up two weeks of lively spring practice. With the departure of a strong senior class, competition was the order of the day as players battled to claim open starting positions and coaches began to assemble depth charts on offense and defense.
While the 2015 squad may be lacking in experience, there is no shortage of talent as was evident by the 78 colleges who made visits to Milton as part of their spring recruiting efforts, with at least eight players already receiving scholarship offers.
Coach DeCristofaro was pleased with the progress the team is making. “We have many holes to fill, but the players have been putting in the work during the winter and spring to fill the gaps. We still have a long way to go, but if we keep working hard we will get where we need to be. The schedule we have is daunting, so we must be ready to play extremely hard to match last year’s success.”
What does he mean by daunting, you ask? The Eagles open the season with non-region games against archrival Region 6 champ Alpharetta at home on August 28th and at perennial power Norcross on September 4th before even getting into region play. Climb aboard and buckle up Eagle Nation…we are going to need your support every step of the way!

The success of the Milton Football program over the past few season has been built upon the foundation of a rigorous strength and conditioning regimen. Several members of the team and coaching staff headed south to Coffee High School to put those talents on display at the recent GACA State Weightlifting Championships. Milton took second place in the overall team competition and received individual honors in almost every weight division.
Among the top individual performances were 1st place finishes by Devyn Wilkins (Under 160 pound division), Micco Brisker (Under 205), and Nick Steinhaus (Under 245). 2nd place finishers included AJ Beach (Under 160), Jonathan Cistrunk (Under 180), and Nick Wilson (Over 245). 3rd place finishers included Jack Marinich (Under 160), Davis Johnson (Under 180), Nate Johnson (Under 190), and Tyler Watson (Over 245).
Congratulations to all 28 of the Eagles players who made the long trip and contributed to the strong showing. It is exciting to see yet another example of how the team’s commitment and hard work is paying dividends both in the weight room and on the field.
